Creating Talking WebPages

Now that you have a good idea about WebSpeak's main window and the commands used by WebSpeak to create a script, we can start by showing you a simple example on how you can make a simple welcome for your main page.

Example:

Let's assume you have a web store. you main web store is at http://www.mywebstore.com. When someone visits your web site, you would like Peedy character (A parrot character) to appear on the top right corner of the screen, and start by playing a pleased animation, followed by the character saying the following:

Hi, welcome to My Web Store!

Then the character will then play an announcing animation, and continue on saying:

Please feel free to browse our huge selection of computer hardware and software. We offer the best prices on the web, always!

Then, the character will pause for 10 seconds, and whispers:

For a limited time, I will offer you free shipping on any order valued at $50.00 or more. Hurry, this won't last for ever!

The character now will play a wave animation, and say "Good Bye!", then hides.

Step by Step Tutorial:

Here are the steps to that you should do:

  1. Run WebSpeak

  2. Go to File Menu, Select "New Project".

  3. Highlight "Project" from the commands frame.

  4. Let's give our project a name of "My Web Store Greeting". Enter the name in the Project Name field in Project Properties frame.

  5. Select Peedy from the Character drop down list in the Project Properties frame.

  6. Enter a tile for your web page at the Title text box, let's call it "My Web Store".

  7. From the drop down list at the bottom (the commands list) of WebSpeak, select "Move To", click Add.

  8. To display the character on the top left corner of the screen, select "800x600" in the Resolution drop down list from the Move To frame and drag the top scroll bar to the far left. See capture below:

  12. From the commands list, select "Speak"

  14. From the commands list, select "Play Animation", click Add.

  15. From the Animation List on the right of WebSpeak Window, select "Announce"

  16. From the commands list, select "Speak"

  17. Enter "Please feel free to browse our huge selection of computer hardware and software. We offer the best prices on the web, always!" in the Speak text box on the right side of WebSpeak's window.

  18. From the commands list, select "Pause", and drag the scroll bar till you see "10" indicating that you want the character to pause for 10 seconds before going to the next command.

  23. Add the Speak commands, and then enter "Good Bye!" in the Speak text box.

  24. Finally, select "Hide Character" from the commands list and click Add.

  25. You can now save your project by going to the File Menu, and selecting Save.

Your final WebSpeak window should look like this:

To preview your project, go to the File Menu, and select "Preview".

If you want, you can download the project ready from here and load it into WebSpeak to see how it's done.
